Our Vision for City Green

At the end of October we had a massive milstone moment as we poured the main auditorium floor! We had a moment of thanksgiving to God for this milestone as we laid a Bible in the foundation, praying that City Green will always be a place that brings the Hope of Jesus to many people!

In October we completed the upper level brickwork which includes upper breakaway spaces and passages. Facing South, these spaces get beautiful sun coming through the ample glass doors and windows during the day!

In October we completed the main auditorium wall and grass area. This huge walls spans an impressive 30m across and is 14m high! We also completed by raised grass area which is getting greener by the day!

Once slabs were completed, we started building up the South facing upper level spaces.

After the main backstage slab was completed work began on bricking up the main backstage wall. This is a huge wall and brings much completion to the exterior of the building!

We are blessed to have an amazing colour consultant who helped us choose the final colours for the building. ‘Fog Grey’ is our beautiful colour for all the exterior walls. It has a green undertone to compliment the beauty of the natural area City Green is situated on!

14 August was a big and long day as 80 cubes of concrete was poured for all the upper level surfaces!

While working on the concrete slabs, we also raised to grass embankment. This now creates direct access off the grass onto the top level on the new building!

August also saw the priming of all the exterior and interior walls, bringing the buliding to life as we prepped for paint!

In August we loved seeing the first staircase going in, creating direct access to the top level!

In July work started on the upper level concrete slabs. These slabs will cover the backstage area, the upper level rooms, and the mezzanine walkway inside the building.

In June all the aluminium glass doors and windows on the lower level were installed. This is a massive milestone!

In June we commenced with the plastering of the full interior and exterior of the entire building.

Through May & June we completed the laying of floors in all our lower level breakaway rooms, foyers areas and passages! The main floor will commence in July.

In May the installation of all our upper level containers was completed. These containers all create breakaway rooms and form some of the upper level walkway which will go around the entire auditorium!

In May a lot of brickwork and prep has been happening for the installation of the new upper level containers to go in! This is a drone shot of the amazing progress that has been made in 11 short months!

Through April we’ve seen the brickwork go up around the complete exterior in preperation for containers which will close in the entire building.

The brickwork around the structure is going up quickly forming the lower level breakway rooms, backstage walls and more!

In February we kicked off with our next package of work! This package will include all the ground level brickwork, the acquiring and conversion of containers for the upper level, the electrical conduiting in the floor, and the final floor slab!

In the first weeks of December we saw the complete roof installed on the structual frame! What a transformation!

In the first week of December the entire roof was rolled out on site for installation.

During the last week of November we got to witness the structure go up, giving the site a whole new feel as we can now experience the scale of the structure! Certain containers have also been put in position for future upper level break-away rooms.

28 November was a HUGE milestone for the project as all the steelwork for the ‘Super-structure’ (main steel frame) arrived on site. All the work has been prefabricated off-site, and now will be installed on-site! This is the whole structure of the auditorium including the roof, planned to be complete by mid-December!

During November a large amount of brickwork was completed for a number of our ground floor breakaway rooms and walkways. This will allow for a number of containers to be installed on top of this brickwork for upper level rooms.

In October the foundations and steel work for the stage took place.

In October the digging of the foundations for all the side rooms started.

Did you know that on the ground fall we are going to have 3 breakaway rooms, 2 parent’s lounges, plus store rooms. On the upper level we are going to have 4 breakaway rooms, a board room, plus a hospitality lounge!

In September we saw the completion of the reinforcement and raising of the retaining wall (which will be behind the backstage area of the new auditorium). A concrete slab will be built extending from the wall to the new building. This will be the primary connecting point between the old and the new buildings.

(Interesting fact: this retaining wall was previously built to retain an Olympic size swimming pool which was situated on the grass section behind it!)

Through August worked continued on the lower level floor bed, with the fill brought in amounting to over 800 cubes!

At the end of July work started on the lower floor surface bed, giving a good sense of what the layout of the audiroium will look like!

Friday 14 July 2023 was another mile-stone day as 16 trucks rolled in for our first concrete pour!

On 7 July 2023, all twelve mini-piles were installed into the foundations.

On 28 June 2023 our brand new circulation road was completed and ready to be driven on!

In the last weeks of  June the excavations for the foundations progressed quickly in preperation for the piles to be installed in the first week of July!

19 June was a landmark day as the laying out of the foundations started, with the digging out of the foundations due to commence later in the week.

In May, 3 more containers arrived on site. These 12m containers are going to be set in place during the upcoming foundation work, for where they will be used in the future building!
The scripture on the trucks this time was Isaiah 26:12
“Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.”

On Monday 24 April 2023 work began on the relocation of the main circulation road. This is the first of 4 major projects, the second being the foundations which is due to commence mid-May.

On Sunday 23 April 2023 we officially broke ground on the new auditorium! This was an incredibly special moment as we took everyone down after the gatherings to share in communion, pray and celebrate this milestone!

The new auditoirum will include a number of  containers making up some of the upper level breakaway rooms! We will be acquiring containers at the best possible prices as they become available and storing them onsite for future conversion.
The first three containers arrived in April, and the trucks had these 2 scriptures on the front!

An extremely generous donation of over 3000s/m of carpet which was delivered from Cape Town at the end of March, and will be more than sufficient to carpet our entire new auditoiurm.
